Our females are the foundation of our program. It is hard to offer great bulls out of mediocre cows. The first question we ask when considering a new AI sire is “Will we love the daughters? Will they be better than our current cows?” If we are not extremely confident that we will LOVE the daughters, we won’t use the sire. If selecting for a better momma cow is not a top priority, then it seems to us the strategy is very short term. Our livelihood, and the success of our program is built on the quality of our cowherd. We run our cows like commercial cows. They must breed back, raise big calves, maintain condition, have eye appeal, be structurally sound with good udders, and have a calm disposition in order to stay here. We have been doing this long enough now, that we have multigenerational cows from outstanding proven cow families.
